Troy Dualam Inc. designs and custom shop-fabricates Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) and Dual Laminate gas scrubbers, absorbers, and packed towers for severe industrial gas cleaning, odor control, and chemical process absorption. Every vessel is engineered to specific process gas composition, temperature, operating pressure, and vacuum conditions.

Applications span chlor-alkali chlorine absorption, wet gas scrubbing, hydrochloric acid (HCl) recovery, sulfur dioxide (SO2) removal, pulp and paper bleach plant exhaust, and municipal/industrial odor control systems.

Scrubber Configurations and Internals

  • Configurations: Vertical packed bed towers (counter-current), horizontal cross-flow scrubbers, venturi scrubbers, multi-stage chlor-alkali absorption columns, and mist eliminator housings.
  • Shop fabrication sizing: Vessels shop-fabricated up to 14 feet in diameter at our certified facility. Taller absorption columns are engineered and fabricated in flanged body sections for safe transport and precise on-site assembly.
  • Engineered internals: Packing support grids, liquid distributors (spray headers and trough distributors), bed limiters, chevron and mesh mist eliminators, hold-down lugs, lifting trunnions, and integrally reinforced nozzles.

ASME RTP-1 Shop Certification and Standards

  • ASME RTP-1 certified fabricator: Troy Dualam Inc. holds an active ASME RTP-1 Certificate of Authorization for shop fabrication at its Elizabethtown, Ontario facility. RTP-1 stamping applies to custom shop-fabricated vessels and columns operating up to 15.0 psig internal and external design pressure (with required proof testing per RTP-1 rules).
  • Atmospheric and non-stamped designs: Atmospheric gas cleaning vessels and odor control towers engineered to ASTM D3299 (filament-wound), ASTM D4097 (contact-molded), or specific plant engineering standards.
  • Certification scope attribution: The ASME RTP-1 certificate is held strictly by Troy Dualam Inc. for shop fabrication. On-site field assembly is a separate scope and is not covered by the shop certificate.

Resin Systems and Dual Laminate Liners

  • Solid FRP construction: Premium Derakane 411 vinyl ester for general acid/alkali gas streams, Derakane 470 novolac for elevated temperatures and solvent/oxidizer combinations, and Derakane 510-series for flame retardance. Multi-veil resin-rich inner corrosion barriers protect structural laminates against acid mist and halogen gas.
  • Dual laminate construction (thermoplastic and fluoropolymer liners): For severe chemistries exceeding unlined resin capabilities (such as wet chlorine, fluorine, and aggressive chlorination reactions):
    • PVDF (Kynar): Wet chlorine and halogen gas absorption.
    • ECTFE (Halar) & PFA/FEP: High-temperature aggressive oxidizer absorption and zero-permeation requirements.
    • PVC / CPVC & Polypropylene (PP): Acid scrubbing, caustic scrubbers, and general chemical gas streams.
    • 100% spark tested: All welded liner seams spark-tested prior to external FRP structural reinforcement.

Fabrication and Outage Field Services

Troy Dualam Inc. handles all engineering calculations, shop fabrication, nozzle reinforcement, and ASME proof testing. Field stack-up of column sections, nozzle tie-ins, packing inspection, and emergency outage repairs are provided or overseen by Troy Dualam Services.

Frequently Asked Questions
